Excited to announce that Volcanic Kitchens, A further collection of recipes, stories and photographs is a finalist in the 2020 Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, having won the New Zealand category for ‘Easy Recipes’.
The next step is the international competition of the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, with books from other countries in the same category. The results will be announced at the Paris Cookbook Fair in the Louvre Tuileries Gardens, on Saturday June 5, 2021.

Volcanic Kitchens, Come and join us, was published in 2011. A quality photographic recipe book of Rotorua and the wider Volcanic Plateau. Celebrating - through Gerhard Egger's photographs, and recipes from the local community - an area of New Zealand that is very special. This first edition was sold as a fundraiser for the Te Whakapono Health Trust, and a Rotary Breakfast in Schools programme, raising close to $20,000.00 for the community. About the Authors Gerhard and Henrietta Egger have lived in Rotorua since 1993. Over the years, they have had a variety of careers, including (but not exclusively) hospitality and farming. Since 2003, Gerhard has been a professional photographer specialising in food photography and styling—and together they have published three previous books.
